Battery storage subsidies 2026: overview and the most common mistakes

Where to look for support

• Family houses: the New Green Savings programme of the State Environmental Fund. It supports PV and, with it, battery storage, support is calculated from output and capacity and has caps.
• Businesses: calls from the Modernisation Fund (RES+) and the OP TAK operational programme. They open from time to time, have limited budgets and tend to be oversubscribed.
• Apartment buildings: programmes for residential buildings, often combined with another renovation of the building.

Exact amounts and conditions change between calls. Before deciding we always check them on the provider's website.

Mistake 1: starting before the call allows it

Some programmes do not support costs incurred before the application or before a certain date. An order or installation at the wrong moment can mean losing eligibility.

Mistake 2: assuming a battery alone is supported

Not every programme supports adding a battery to existing PV. Some require a new set-up or a combination with another measure. Check it for your case before counting on the subsidy.

Mistake 3: missing technical documents

Calls require documented parameters: capacity, power, cell type, certification, inspection report. If the supplier does not provide the documents or they do not match the application, payment is delayed or lost.

Mistake 4: counting on the money upfront

The subsidy usually arrives only after completion and settlement. Financing must cover the full amount, and the subsidy should be seen as a later refund of part of the costs.
